Terms of Use
Last updated September 11, 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Use apply to the foldelight macOS application and the foldelight website. By downloading, installing, or using foldelight, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use foldelight.
2. Open-source license
foldelight is free and open-source software licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). That license governs your right to copy, modify, and distribute the software. These terms do not limit any right granted by the AGPL-3.0.
3. System requirements and permissions
foldelight requires macOS 14 or later, an Apple silicon MacBook with a compatible lid-angle sensor, and Screen Recording permission. The live effect cannot run without that permission.
The Privacy Policy explains how foldelight handles screen frames, lid-angle readings, settings, debug logs, and diagnostic recordings.
4. Your responsibility
You are responsible for installing and using foldelight on compatible hardware and for maintaining appropriate backups. You control the Screen Recording permission and can revoke it in macOS System Settings.
5. Availability and changes
foldelight may change, become unavailable, or stop supporting a device or macOS version. Updates may alter features or system requirements. There is no promise that support, maintenance, or updates will continue.
6. Disclaimer of warranties
foldelight is provided “as is” and “as available.” To the fullest extent permitted by law, all warranties are disclaimed, whether express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and any warranty that foldelight will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dario Farzati is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages arising from foldelight or its use. This includes loss of data, profits, goodwill, or business opportunity.
Any total liability arising from foldelight is limited to the amount you paid for it. Some jurisdictions do not permit certain exclusions or limitations. In those jurisdictions, these terms apply only to the extent permitted by law.
8. Trademarks
Mac, MacBook, macOS, iPhone, and iPhone Duo are trademarks of Apple Inc. foldelight is an independent project and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by Apple.
9. Third-party links
The website may link to third-party websites, including GitHub and the Free Software Foundation. Those services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. foldelight is not responsible for their content or practices.
10. Changes to these terms
These terms may change when foldelight’s features or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows the latest revision. Your continued use after a revision means that you accept the revised terms.
11. Severability and entire agreement
If a provision cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions remain in effect. These terms, the Privacy Policy, and the AGPL-3.0 license form the entire agreement concerning foldelight, with the AGPL-3.0 controlling all software-license rights.
